What is saint johns club?

Find Out More....

The school was started in 1992 as St. John Nursery School. This was then transformed into St John’s Informal Primary School to respond to the challenge of increasing number of street children who had no access to education and many children whose parents could not afford to send them to a government school. The school offers the government directed syllabus and some vocational training especially for the older pupils.

Background of Saint John's School

School's Mission

To provide access to holistic, affordable and quality education informed by Christian values to the children in Korogocho slums, particularly the orphans, recovering street children and the very poor in order to model children who are trustworthy, honest, well informed and responsible to themselves and their society.

With so many children not able to afford fees, the school needs support to help it achieve its mission. At the moment it costs each pupil Kshs.1600 per term to pay for their tuition, day time meals and sports. [Based on the current exchange rates, this translates to about £30 per year]

Oaklands Mission

Since September 2011, we have helped the community of St John’s build a Cultural Centre which consists of a gym and other rooms for their self-help projects. We now want to focus our attention to making a contribution towards helping St John’s School achieve its mission. Oaklands mission statement is Unity Community Opportunity; by taking part in this scheme of sponsoring children to have an education, we are living our mission and calling to make our world a better place for all. We will be helping St John’s achieve their mission. We will also be establishing a closer link between our communities so that we can learn from each other.

"The link between faith, culture, and success"

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond imagination. It is our light more than our darkness which scares us. We ask ourselves – who are we to be brilliant, beautiful, talented, and fabulous. But honestly, who are you to not be so?" - Web Dubois

"Don’t tell me what you know; show me what you can do!"
- Dr. J. E. Kwegyir Aggrey
